My Strengths as a Student.

Filed under: Uncategorized — sarina1213 at 2:46 pm on Friday, April 8, 2011

The ability to apply knowledge and skills in new setting. I demonstrated this skill this year when i came to FLC. I demonstrated it when it came to my classes I used what i learned at my old school to help me understand my work. Also it helped me work better with my peers. For example at the begining of the year we had made a structure that had to stand up on it’s own and support a marshmellow so I used my knowledge of building from my other school to help me with this project.

A strong sense of ethics and integrity. I demonstrate this skill everyday. I demonstrate it at school because I do my work and respect my teachers and school. An example of when i demonstrated this skill is at my local recreation center. I go there to teach a positive image class for young girls. And I do not use foul language around them or lie to them because in life you need the truth to better your self and the world.

The ability to analyze a problem to develop workable solutions. I demonstrate this skill on a day to day bases. An example of when i demonstrated this skill is for my dance group Special Fx I had an upcoming show that we had to preform for but we had no where to practice. So I thought quick ad fast and called my local recreation center and asked if I could use one of their rooms. And they said yes and we now also teach the younger kids how to dance.

A skill that i would like to gain is the ability to write and speak well. I choose this skill because when I present I get really nervous and stutter and get tongue tied and my writing could be better because when i write i try to fit as much of my idea as i can before I forget it so it sometimes come out unclear.

Teen Suicide.

Filed under: Uncategorized — sarina1213 at 2:24 pm on Monday, April 4, 2011

Common Causes.

Common causes of teen suicide are different things such as academics. Also there are social and individual pressures. Other causes are stress factors. Such as violence in the family, poor performance, fears of punishment, rivalry and much more. All of these things can make them think and feel like there is nothing to live for.

What are the statistics.

The statistics for teen suicide are 15 out of every 25 teens have thoughts about suicide, committing suicide and have tried. This is a very disturbing number if you think about it because of  how many teens my be considering suicide or have attempted to commit suicide. For every 25 suicides there is one that is completed. Teen suicide statistics differ between gender and suicide. For example males are four times more likely to die from suicide then females. But teenage females are more likely to commit suicide then teenage males. Also males are more likely to actually complete a suicide attempt while females are more likely to “call for help” in a suicide attemp.

Warning Signs.

Some warning signs that show you that someone is depressed and may be considering suicide are pulling away from friends or family and losing desire to go out. And trouble concentrating or thinking clearly. Changes in eating or sleeping habits. Also there are major changes in appearance (example: someone who is normally really neat becomes lazy and sloppy.) They talk about feeling hopeless or guilty and they talk about death. Lastly self destructive behavior.

How you can help.

To help prevent a possible suicide attempt talk to your teen-ager about suicide and ask if their having suicidal thoughts and don’t be afraid to use the word suicide. Putting the word out in the open may help your teen talk about it because it seems like you heard his/her cries for help. Reassure your love for them and no matter how bad their problems seem you can work them out together. Ask about their feelings listen and don’t get upset at them. Lastly seek professional help.

Six passages…

Filed under: Uncategorized — sarina1213 at 2:31 pm on Thursday, December 9, 2010

1. Passage-”Babies! yes, i saw it-saw it with my own eyes… those children in the flames.” (30)

Reading this passage angered me and gave me rage because it states in page 30 "is it surprising that i could not sleep
after that sleep had fled from my eyes." It upset me to know that they could sit and throw babies into pits of fire and
not feel a thing guilt nor remorse for what they did. There is nothing that can be said or done to make that seem less cruel.
That passage hurt me because they murdered someone that could have done something good in this world. Personally i am truly
grateful that i didn't have to go through something like this.

2. Passage-” A terrible thought loomed up in my mind: he had wanted to get rid of his father!” (87)

This passage also upset me because he choose to leave his father behind to give himself a better chance of survival.
"He had believed that the end was near and had sought this seperation in order to get rid of the burden,to free himself from
an encumbrance which could lessen his chances of survival."

3. Passage-” The dead stayed in the yard under the snow, like faithful guards assassinated,

without burial.” (87)

While reading this passage it opend my eyes to how badly they were treated. Also it shows that being treated with such cruelty
for so long changed them." no one said the prayer for the dead over them sons abandoned their fathers without a tear." To think
that children became so selfish in keeping themselfs alive that they stoped caring about their families. I personally would never
leave my family behind to perish.

4. Passage-” Around me everything was dancing a dance of death…I was walking in a cemetery, amoung stiffened corpses, logs of wood.” (84)

This passage I found to be very depressing to know he thought in his head not being sure if he or his father would live to see the next day
also if his mother and sister were alive." no one asked anyone elese for help. You died because you had to die." I feel really bad for what
he had to go through.

5. Passsage-” At every step someone fell and suffered no more.” (88)

This saddend me because to me it seemed like everyone had given up all hope of them having a family or normal life. If it were me I
would never give up the thought of being free and happy again until the very day of my death and not even then. Also this quote mad be sad
" we heard no more shots. Our guards must have been tired. The cold was concientiously doing it's work." I would never wish these kinds of
thoughts on anyone.

6. Passage-” Don’t cry, Yechiel,” I said. ” Don’t waste your tears…”. ” Not cry? We’re on the threshold of death… Don’t you understand? How could i not cry?”

Reading this kind of confused mean but as i reread it i understood what both characters were coming from. One doesn't want to give the
Nazis the satisfaction of seeing them with fear. While the other is like I don't care anymore what do we have left death is a forsure thing
for us so why fight it anymore I'm tired of fighting. " Never shall i forget that nocturnal silence which deprived me, for all eternity,of
the desire to live." And "Antechamber of hell must look like this. So many crazed men, So many cries, SO much bestial brutality!"

Soda:a sin we sip instead of smoke?

Article of the week

1. Is the comparison of soda to tobacco a fair one?

I think that it’s not for the simple fact that soda’s health risks are not as severe as those of tobacco. Yes soda may cause obesity but it does not cause lung cancer like tobacco does. Therefore i think the comparison of soda to tobacco is unfair.

2.What are your personal soda comsumption methods?

My personal consumption methods are mostly small can sodas but not that often once every now and then i really dont drink it at myhouse it’s rare to see me drinking a soda.

3.How do you think your health will be affected by it?

I think that if we continue to consume the lage amounts of sugary soft drinks that we will have a large problem with adults and the children that consume them. Not only will there be more adults and children at risk for diabetes the will show even younger children that it is okay to drink these drinks and that there are no repercussions of their actions.

Are your jeans sagging? Go directly to jail.

1. Is there logic fallacy in this article?

I think that there is logic fallacy in this article because of how they base a persons behaviour based on how they dress.

2. What stereotypes do we associate with the way others dress?

The stereotypes that we associate with the way others dress are for example someone could be walking with their jeans sagging and you automatically assume that they are with a gang or that their a bad person.

3. Give your reaction to this community’s attitude towards sagging jeans.

I fell as though that they are getting the wrong idea from they fashion statement of sagging  jeans. Not only is it wrong to assume that people that wear sagging jeans are criminals, in gangs, or trouble makers it’s not always the cause your basing what a person looks like on there clothing and their actions.

But when i looked inside the mirror

There was no beauty i could see

I asked you why you said that

Article Of The Week “The Future Of The Electric Car”

Filed under: Uncategorized — sarina1213 at 6:32 pm on Tuesday, September 28, 2010

1. Mark your confusion.

My confusion is on how they are going to properly get rid of the dead Lithium-ion batteries? Also how are they goin g to recycle the the parts that they are able to use again? And lastly how and where are they going to get rid of the harsh chemicals they have in them?

2. Show evidence of a close reading.

In the article they were talking about how as the demand for “Eco-friendly” cars are rising  how they have to come up with ways to charge them when your on the go. Also they mentioned how the major car companys are designing electric cars. And the prices of them, how you can get a discount on buying them.

3.Write a one page reflection.

I thinkthat as the ecosystem is being threatend by cars and other things that admit harmful chemials into the air that they should come up with ways to do the same things but more eco-friendly. Also they should continue with what they started by furthering their work on making places to charge electric cars faster than what they would take if they were charging at home. They should also see if they can give larger dicounts on some of the cars to that people who cant afford them can be able to purchase one. Lastly I think that the electric car is important for the future so the should continue there reseach and projects.
